Nearly Holidays!

I have one day left of work before 2 weeks off. Hooray!

My boy will turn 7 over the holidays.
7??

7!!!
Where on earth did the last 7 years go?
I swear just yesterday he was a brand new baby.
So sweet and incredibly Hairy!
But 7 he is.

In honour of this momentous occasion he is taking a cake to school tomorrow.
Until recently his school has had a no home made cakes policy.
Which I'm sure you will understand is an abomination for someone like me!
So I was thrilled to find out the change in policy.
I checked with his teacher and he said no worries!

So this is what we created.

I hope he has a great day tomorrow.

He's not getting a Party. The first time ever! And I feel a little guilty about that but his sister didn't have one this year so I decided to make it fair.
We'll probably just have some special people over for some cake and pizza. Really must get onto that then hey!

Have a great day!

My Job!

Just over 12 months ago I took on a job at my son's school as the Tuckshop Convenor. I didn't really know what to expect. I mean you just make lunches right? But in a world of Food Safety and Smart Choices it's SO much more complicated than that. I can only serve certain kinds of foods, I need to monitor how many servings of Amber foods children are having a day.
I had to do a course to prove I knew about safely storing and preparing foods.

I really love my job. I enjoy the children, and the staff at my school, and I love the Hours!

We are about to have 2 weeks Holiday so I only have one more day of work this week. Friday will be spent stocktaking and cleaning before the break.

I cannot wait!

Last weekend one of my suppliers had an Expo where they got all their suppliers together and we all got to wander around and try things, ask questions and get great deals on products.
I was so nervous! I went by myself, and a lot of other schools had a bunch of people. It was my first experience at this.
You could tell the old hands, they brought trolley's to carry all the samples in. And they had their lists of questions, they took multiple servings of the samples on offer.
I toddled in with just my handbag, alone, and when I took a sample I just took one of everything. Next time I'll know exactly what to do!

But I did get some great ideas for new products.
I've been quite nervous thus far to change much but now I feel in order to 'stake my claim' on my Tuckshop I need to shake things up.

So I started today by cleaning out the cupboards and throwing away boxes and boxes of old newsletters, and pricelists and catalogues.

Clutter annoys me, shame I can't be more ruthless at home though, so I cleared some!
I felt better and more positive immediately!

Hello neglected blog!

Well I thought I should resurrect my poor blog. I suspected when I started this that I didn't have the dedication required to give to a Blog. But Start it I did!
You see I've always been good at STARTING things but I am a terrible FINISHER!

Oh well!

I am Back!
I am back, not really because of cakes, though I do have one to show you tomorrow. But because sometimes you just need to get everything out of your head.

I'm rather a novice at this blogging bizzo.
When I first heard the term a few years ago I thought someone was referring to using the toilet!
So bear with me while I figure it all out.

Serge the Seal

In January of last year my beloved printed out a picture of this guy. Serge the Seal, some kind of cartoon character. And announced he wanted him for his Birthday.

Ok I said!

For Sabrina

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of making this little guy for 8yr old Sabrina.

She was having a party at the Teddy Bear Factory and wanted a Bear, a girl after my own heart, obsessed with the theme! :D

Every girl loves Handbags!

You will have to excuse my photography skills, or lack thereof and some of the backgrounds.

As you may have guessed by now I really enjoy baking and decorating cakes!
This was cake #2 for Bianca's 3rd Birthday.
We had a small morning tea with my Mum and Brother on the morning of her Birthday, her party was the day after, and I decided a Handbag would be good!

I saw a design in a magazine and changed it to suit the materials I had on hand, because I had not planned on having a cake on her actual Birthday morning.

This cake was so much fun to make! I would love to do it again but with a different look.

On Pointe

This is one of my most recent creations.

My Daughter recently turned 3 and wanted a Pink Cake and kept coming back to a Ballet cake in one of my books.
We made a few alterations and ended up with these divine slippers!
One is plain Butter Cake and one is Chocolate.
I iced this with Pink, strawberry flavoured icing.
It was a big hit with her!
