Serge the Seal

In January of last year my beloved printed out a picture of this guy. Serge the Seal, some kind of cartoon character. And announced he wanted him for his Birthday.

Ok I said!

For Sabrina

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of making this little guy for 8yr old Sabrina.

She was having a party at the Teddy Bear Factory and wanted a Bear, a girl after my own heart, obsessed with the theme! :D

Every girl loves Handbags!

You will have to excuse my photography skills, or lack thereof and some of the backgrounds.

As you may have guessed by now I really enjoy baking and decorating cakes!
This was cake #2 for Bianca's 3rd Birthday.
We had a small morning tea with my Mum and Brother on the morning of her Birthday, her party was the day after, and I decided a Handbag would be good!

I saw a design in a magazine and changed it to suit the materials I had on hand, because I had not planned on having a cake on her actual Birthday morning.

This cake was so much fun to make! I would love to do it again but with a different look.

On Pointe

This is one of my most recent creations.

My Daughter recently turned 3 and wanted a Pink Cake and kept coming back to a Ballet cake in one of my books.
We made a few alterations and ended up with these divine slippers!
One is plain Butter Cake and one is Chocolate.
I iced this with Pink, strawberry flavoured icing.
It was a big hit with her!

Toot! Toot!

Ben wanted to take a Train to kindy when he was 4.
So this is what we came up with.

Quite labour intensive but a whole lot of fun!

Aaaargh Me Hearties!

My Son had a pirate party for his 4th Birthday.
This cake was a little stressful to make, the joy of having children with Spring/Summer Birthdays - Icing melts! But I've since come up with some wonderful tricks to make things a whole lot easier!

Numerals!

Something for the Girls

My little girl turned 1 and naturally required 3 cakes. *blush*
First we had a Simple Butterfly to celebrate with her Godparents
A Tiara for our little family of 4 on her actual Birthday.
and a Dolly Varden that endured more than any cake should. She was made on a Friday, and had to be transported all the way to Northern NSW for us to have morning tea with the family on Sunday.
I know people say they never remember their 1st Birthday so why make such a fuss but we do! Parents will always remember the 1st birthday, photos are taken so the kids can look back on them. Mine love looking through their photo albums and remembering their cakes.

Speed... I am Speed

My Sons 3rd Birthday meant Cake Overload!
He was going to Daycare, and Playgroup and had a Party and a Dinner with Family!
We did another "make it up as we go along" with Lightning McQueen from Disney's Cars
He also wanted a Race Track
and naturally a number 3.
For Kindy we went pretty simple with a sort of Big Chocolate Freckle.

Finding Nemo

My Son was obsessed with Nemo when he was 2.

So we had a Nemo Party complete with Nemo cake.

This was my first "make it up as I go along" cake, and I was 6 months pregnant. I remember the morning of the party my husband had to resuce me in the kitchen because I was having a flip out about making his "lucky fin" just right.

He's always such a great help, he helps me solve problems as they crop up, he's full of good ideas when I am all out.
And very supportive of all the baking.
Love him to bits!

The Story so far...

Ever since I was a little girl I loved looking through the Cake books to find the perfect cake for my birthday.

My mum with her Mum's help, would indulge my every whim, even if it meant the same bunny cake twice :D

So when I had my own children I couldn't wait for their 1st Birthday to get all creative in the kitchen!

Sadly there are no pictures of my Son's first cake - unless you count the one of him smashing it and eating it. It was a number 1 covered in Smarties

But ever since then I've been snapping every thing that comes out of my oven!
So I'm going to use this blog to cronicle the baking!!!
